BULLDOZERS ARE FINALLY HERE

Image of FarnboroughThe bulldozers are here at last. Cllr Brian Parker summed up all our mood in the photo above as we met the men from Erith who are going to be carrying out the works.

Town Centre Update

Image of FarnboroughRushmoor and KPI have now signed a legal agreement that enables work to commence on the new Town Centre for Farnborough. Contracts for the demolition and first phase have now been awarded, and work is commencing

The demolition contract has been given to Erith, who are currently disconnecting electric etc before commencing demolition in the next two weeks. The first part to be demolished will be 59-33 Queensmead, and the demolition company Erith will then continue north demolishing and making the area clear for rebuilding finishing in mid September.

Phase 1: Building a new service road access and new entrance for Kingsmead. Westco have been assigned this contract and will start in about two weeks. The work will last for 3 months and will involve the closure of the Kingsmead West entrance for 2 weeks. (Please note that the other 3 entrances will remain open).

Phase 2: Replacement housing for Firgrove Court. This will start mid June and last about a year. The tenders are due back in 2 weeks.

Phase 3: Offices and shops between 61 Queensmead and Kingsmead. This will start by the end of the year, and will take about a year to complete.

Phase 4: Supermarket. residential and hotel. The largest part of the scheme. This will start Jan/Feb 2008. The retail element will be "open for business" by September 2008 although the phase will take about 85 weeks to complete fully.

Phase 5: Debenham wrap around. This will start about March 2008 and will take about 18 months to complete.

Work with the Police a great partnership

Image of Police Meeting

We held our first Ward Community Safety Meeting February 15th 2007. In attendance were neighbourhood watch coordinators from all over the ward along with church, education, sport, business and retail representatives. The meeting was organised by the Empress Police beat officers Lee Jeffers and Bev Woodhead, along with your Empress Borough Cllrs Patricia Hodge and David Clifford.

The purpose of the meeting was to identify the 3 top priorities for the police to tackle in the ward. The next meeting in May (meetings will be every 3 months) we will review what has been accomplished in tackling these 3 priorities and then set another 3 priorities. And so it will continue.

The meeting took 2 hours, and set the following 3 priorities:

1. Cove Green - to tackle anti social behaviour and provide facilities for young people.
2. Town Center - tackle anti social behaviour.
3. Cycling - deal with cyclists that endanger pedestrians, but also work to make the cycleways clearer and more obvious.

In June we will report back what we have done to address these issues.

If you want other priorities considered please drop us an email.
